Marco Cecchinato v Damir Dzumhur Head to Head

This will be the sixth competitive meeting between the two men (with one walkover in Miami this year also to be taken into account). The Bosnian won the first two matches,  but the last three contests between them, all played on clay, were won by the Italian. That includes victory in this tournament last year.

Cecchinato Playing on His Favourite Surface

The world number sixteen, and 11th seed for this tournament, is back on the surface, where he got to the semi-final of the French Open last year, beating Novak Djokovic along the way before losing to Dominic Thiem.

And, in the past year, he has won three senior ATP clay titles – the Hungarian and Croatian Open events last year and then two months ago, in Buenos Aires, the Argentina Open defeating home favourite Diego Schwartzman in the final.

To emphasise his clay court credentials, his junior record also shows his strong preference for the surface, with 5 ATP Challenger and 6 ITF Futures titles under his belt.

He will believe he can go far in Monte-Carlo, and set himself up for another good run in Roland-Garros in two months’ time.

Dzumhur, Bosnian more at home on hard courts

World number 53 Dzumhur is more at home on hard courts than he is on clay, having won two of his three senior ATP titles, the St. Petersburg Cup and the Kremlin Cup on that surface, with the other coming on the grass of Antalya in Turkey.

As a junior he did enjoy some success on clay in both singles and doubles, but those days are some years ago, and he chose to miss the South American clay court season this year, in favour of hard court events, meaning that the Bosnian may lack the necessary match practice before his meeting with Cecchinato.

Cecchinato v Dzumhur Predictions & Tips

Cecchinato is the odds-on favourite for this match at 6/17, whilst Dzumhur is priced at 29/10. Cecchinato is the clay court specialist, has a superior record to his opponent on this surface, and easily beat him in the same event last year. Expect a repeat in 2019.

Tip: Cecchinato to win in straight sets: 5/6 (bet365)
