Novak Djokovic v Philipp Kohlschreiber Head to Head
The two players have met 10 times on the ATP Tour already and the Serbian has won on eight of those instances. With an 8-2 lead, the Serbian will start this match as the favourite.
However, in their last meeting, it was the German who stunned Djokovic in straight sets. That shocking result came in the third round of the Indian Wells Masters earlier this year. It is also interesting to note that all of their meetings have taken place in Masters and Grand Slam tournaments.
Djokovic Hoping for a Positive Run in Monte-Carlo
The Serbian had a sensational start to the season, winning his seventh Australian Open title in Melbourne. It was a great performance by Djokovic, who managed to outsmart and outplay Rafael Nadal in the final in straight sets.
After that, he incurred a rather peculiar run of things. He lost early in the Indian Wells Open to Kohlschreiber and had a similar defeat in the Miami Open too. In the latter, however, the defeat came at the hands of his kryptonite Roberto Bautista Agut. It was the second time this season that he lost to Agut.
It is fair to say that Djokovic hasn’t been that sharp this season although, his Australian Open victory will certainly say otherwise. With the clay season already underway, it will be interesting to see how the Serb fares here.
Kohlschreiber Boosted by Recent Win
Given that the veteran German recently achieved what most players could only dream, he will certainly fancy his chances once again against Djokovic.
He started his journey in Monte-Carlo on a positive note with a straight-set victory over Taro Daniel.
Considering his season so far, it has been rather average but still impressive by his standards. He has had a couple of interesting runs – most notably in the ATP Auckland where he was a semifinalist and in the Indian Wells, where he reached the fourth round. It is worth mentioning that in addition to Djokovic, he also knocked out Nick Kyrgios and Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
Between those two events, the German struggled considerably to move past the early rounds.
Djokovic v Kohlschreiber Predictions & Tips
There is no doubt in the fact that Djokovic will start this match as the favourite to win. He will be eager to start this clay run on a winning note although, his opponents already know that he isn’t as sharp as he was at the start of the season.
Expect Kohlschreiber to put up a fight but the Serbian should be able to handle that threat comfortably.
