Marton Fucsovics v Cameron Norrie Head to Head
These two players will be meeting each other for the first time in their careers.
Fucsovics Aiming for a Climb Up
Ranked 37th in the world, the Hungarian was up against the 12th seeded Nikoloz Basilashvili in the first round and came through in three sets to set up this meeting with the Brit. He overcame a fightback from his more illustrious opponent to close out the match 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 and that should give him a lot of confidence going into this second round match.
This is because Fucsovics was coming into the Monte-Carlo Masters on the back of three successive defeats; one at the Dubai Open quarter-final before losing in round one of both, the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Masters.
Fucsovics was a finalist at the Sofia Open earlier in the year too, so he could put down those early defeats at the Sunshine Masters to an aberration but can he push on from here on?
The good news for Fucsovics is that if he wins this one, his path has been cleared a tad with the defeat of the eighth seeded Karen Khachanov. Khachanov was sent out by Italian qualifier Lorenzo Sonego.
Norrie Eases into Round Two
Norrie did not have too many problems making it to the second round as he defeated Adrian Mannarino in straight sets in his opening match. Ranked 56th in the world, Norrie needed less than 80 minutes to win 6-4, 6-3 against his opponent.
There were early breaks in both games for the Brit – in fact he won those breaks in the third games of the two sets – and once he had that advantage, he refused to let go to win it with much ease.
Of course, coming into this tournament, Norrie’s career clay court record hasn’t been much to write home about with a 3-3 win-loss this season and 6-6 in 2018. Incidentally, Norrie did not feature on clay at any level between 2014 and 2017.
Fucsovics v Norrie Predictions & Tips
It’s going to be quite neck in neck but Norrie’s poor clay record means Fucsovics will start as a heavy favourite. There’s something about the way the Brit is playing that could allow him to remain in the contest by we reckon the Hungarian should win in three sets.
