Alexander Zverev v Nicolas Jarry Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour.

Zverev Seeking a Good Run on Clay

The 22-year-old German has won 10 singles titles of which, four came on the clay surface. Last year, he won the Bavarian Championships and Madrid Open, along with reaching the final in Rome. Needless to mention, he is quite proficient this surface although, we are yet to see such a form from him this season.

In Monte-Carlo last week, he was knocked out by Fabio Fognini in the third round while in Marrakech, he succumbed to Jaume Munar in the second round itself. Zverev’s performance in the Sunshine Doubles was along the same lines, with early defeats in Miami and Indian Wells.

What is more surprising here is that these losses came at the hands of David Ferrer and Jan-Lennard Struff – two players who are not among the most consistent players on the tour at the moment.

Zverev has lacked that level of efficiency and finesse throughout this year. Even in the Mexican Open, he missed out on winning the title after losing to Nick Kyrgios in the final. With the level of intensity slowly rising on the tour, he needs to find his groove and get back to his winning ways.

Luck Favours Jarry in Barcelona

Jarry qualified for the main draw as a lucky loser, following his defeat in the final leg of the qualifiers. In the opening match, he defeated Marcel Granollers 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, to set up the Zverev clash.

The 23-year-old Chilean has a chance to make a name for himself on the tour at the moment, but given his recent form, he has a tough task ahead of him. ATP Barcelona marks the start of the clay season for him, with his previous event being the Miami Open. Over there, he lost in the first round to Jeremy Chardy.

In fact, between the Australian Open and the Mexican Open, Jarry played in three tournaments and lost his opening matches on all the three occasions. The highlight of his season is the Phoenix Challenger, where he lost in the quarterfinal.

Zverev v Jarry Predictions & Tips

Jarry is clearly not a threat here. Zverev, given his superior skills and experience on the tour, should be able to win this one rather comfortably. At the same time, the Chilean can seek some comfort from the fact that Zverev is not as invincible as he was once before and at the very best, can put up a good fight.

Tip: Under 21.5 games in the match: 10/11 (Bet365)
