The pair has never played each other before this encounter at the Barcelona Open.
Medvedev, Eyeing Back-to-Back Semi-Finals
For a man who, at the start of the season, had no form on clay, Medvedev is taking to the surface like a duck to water this year. He enjoyed a memorable run in Monte-Carlo reaching the semi-final, and beating Stefanos Tsitsipas, and more significantly, the world number one Novak Djokovic on the way.
And he has very much continued that form this week, beating the Spanish clay court specialist, Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the second round, and then easily seeing off the challenge of American Mackenzie McDonald in the third. Now he finds himself of his second clay court semi-final in the space of a week.
Jarry, Battling Qualifier Proving His Stamina
The world number 81, Jarry has never won a senior ATP title, the closest he has come so far being the 2018 Brazil Open where he lost in the final. However, he has won 2 senior ATP doubles, and seven junior singles tour titles on clay, which is demonstrably his favourite surface.
Jarry could scarcely have chosen a harder route to this quarter-final.
He had to battle through two, tight three-set matches in qualifying just to reach the main draw, where he beat Marcel Granollers of Spain, again in three sets.
However, his best win came against the second seeded, Alexander Zverev, though he had to rely on a third set tie break to do so.
And, again the same thing happened in the third round. Playing the number thirteen seed Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, he lost the first set before fighting back to clinch the match in the third set, again en route a tie break.
Medvedev v Jarry Predictions & Tips
Medvedev is the odds-on favourite to win this match at 27/100, whilst Jarry is priced at 277/100. Whilst Jarry has had a spectacular run thus far, he has played five three set matches in the past week, and fatigue must be an issue. By contrast, Medvedev is better rested and, with his new found confidence on clay, should have too much for Jarry.
