Kyle Edmund v Denis Kudla Head to Head
The two players have never met on the ATP circuit.
Edmund Looking to Get His Season On Track
British number one Kyle Edmund had a breakthrough year in 2018, winning his first ATP title at Antwerp, making the Australian Open semi-finals, as well as being ranked within the top 15 in the ATP rankings. Although the season ended a little prematurely for him with a knee injury, Edmund’s year promised a strong 2019 ahead.
2019 has not lived up to expectations for Edmund, with indifferent form and inconsistent results. With a solid offensive baseline game and one of the best forehands in the business, it is only a matter of time before Edmund begins to see more consistent results again.
Edmund has a decent draw at Munich and will be looking for confidence seeking early wins to make him a title contender with a deep run. Typically one that has done well on the grass and hard courts, Edmund will be looking for better results on the clay, after disappointing Monte Carlo and Marrakech results.
Can Kudla Improve on Consistency?
American Denis Kudla had a successful start to his career on the US college and ATP challenger circuit. With a good baseline game and offensive flat groundstrokes, Kudla has shown the ability to match the best players on the circuit. However, he has not managed to maintain any sort of consistency throughout his career.
Kudla is currently ranked number 85 in the world and was ranked just outside the top 50 in 2016. His inability to convert starts into results has been the primary driver.
2019 has been a similar season for Kudla, with plenty of starts in the tournaments he has played but unable to get past the round of 64 or 32 on most occasions. Kudla will be looking to use the next month to get more consistent on the tour before the challenges of the summer with three majors and several Masters 1000s. Belief in his game and his ability to challenge the best on the tour is what has been lacking for most of his career.
Edmund v Kudla Predictions & Tips
While Edmunds is more accomplished and considerably higher ranked, both players are looking to achieve some consistency this season and make some deeper runs at tournaments. Both players have strong groundstrokes and we can expect some good baseline rallies and attacking play.
Kudla will be looking to unsettle Edmund early on as once the Edmund forehand is on song, he can be difficult to stop. Expect a good match on the cards, but it should be a comfortable straight sets win for Edmund..
Tip: Edmund to win 2-0: 4/11 (888Sport)
