Ashleigh Barty v Danielle Collins Head to Head
This is the first meeting between the two ladies on the WTA Tour.
Barty on a Roll!
So far this season, the number 9 seed has been absolutely phenomenal. She started outside the top 10 but presently, she is World No. 9 – courtesy of her runner-up feat in Sydney and her winning run in the Miami Open.
Following this top 10 debut, the reigning Nottingham Open champion also played a pivotal role in taking Australia through to the Fed Cup final, defeating Aryna Sabalenka and Victoria Azarenka in the process.
Barty has already registered many impressive victories over the likes of Maria Sharapova, Simona Halep, Kiki Bertens, and Petra Kvitova. Barring her run in the Indian Wells Open where she just reached the fourth round, she has been consistent pretty much throughout the season.
In Madrid, she started strong with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Daria Gavrilova.
Collins Looking to Make Some Progress
The 25-year-old American had a very promising run at the start of the season when she reached the semifinal in the Australian Open after upsetting Caroline Garcia and Angelique Kerber.
Since then, she has had a bit of trouble finding her feet on the tour as she lost quite early in the Indian Wells and Miami Open. Collins did reach the quarterfinal in Charleston but lost to Monica Puig. Her last event was the Prague International where she lost her opening game to Jennifer Brady.
Barty v Collins Predictions & Tips
This is a match that may be a bit too close to call. While Barty has been quite brilliant this year, clay is a surface that she is yet to master. Meanwhile, Collins just downed the former top 10 player Vera Zvonareva in her opening game in Madrid. She also had the advantage of getting some traction on this surface previously.
Both the players are highly competitive and can very well put up a good fight.
