This is the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.
Kerber Begins her Quest for the Career Grand Slam
The next fortnight in Paris will be crucial for the German No. 1. She is not only in contention for World No. 1 ranking again, but she also has the chance to win the French Open and achieve the Career Slam.
However, she faces a daunting task, given that she hasn’t been in that good of a form of late. Viral illness and an ankle injury have kept her off the clay courts for most of the time. Kerber has also admitted to the press that her expectations are a little low and she is happy to have made it to Paris.
Her campaign in Stuttgart was cut short, followed by her subsequent withdrawals from the Madrid Open and Italian Open. The reigning Wimbledon champion had a decent start to the season although, she is still seeking her first title of the year.
Kerber reached the semifinal in Doha and Monterrey, and the final in Indian Wells where she lost to Bianca Andreescu.
Potapova Hoping to Make a Mark
The Russian teenager has had a pretty good year so far. Although Potapova has spent most of the season attempting to move past the qualifiers, she has had her moments.
She reached the semifinal in Budapest and the second round in Prague. She also won the first Grand Slam match of her career in the Australian Open, where she defeated Pauline Parmentier. Potapova was the runner-up in Tashkent Open last season and has been working hard to move up on the WTA Tour.
She is still in the process of inventing herself and is yet to make a discernible impact as a player.
Kerber v Potapova Predictions & Tips
Kerber is heading into this match on the back of injury concerns. Potapova can make things difficult for the German, but she needs to bring her best game forward. It will be an interesting match to follow.
