Djokovic Looking for Another Clinical Victory
World number one Novak Djokovic began his quest for his second “Novak Slam” in convincing fashion against Poland’s Herbert Hurkacz 6-4, 6-4 ,6-2. Winning the Madrid Masters 1000 and being a finalist at Rome the week thereafter took its toll on the Serb, but he looks to have recovered from any effects of fatigue and was in control throughout his opener.
Djokovic, who is currently the holder at the other three majors, is looking to make it four in a row. This is a feat he already achieved in 2016 after winning at Roland Garros. The Serb has had a roller coaster last 24-30 months since, with injury issues that saw him take time off from the tour in 2017-2018, and then make a comeback to win three slams in a row.
The world number one will be looking for a smooth first week, before he gets into the challenging part of his draw, potentially facing the likes of Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev and Juan Martin del Potro in week 2.

Can Laaksonen Challenge the World Number One?
Swiss-Finnish Henri Laaksonen is known on the tennis circuit for things he will look to soon be forgotten for.
Being on the Swiss Davis Cup team, where it was hard to get much recognition, being in the shadow of Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka, Laaksonen made news for misbehavior in the practice sessions and was banned from the Davis Cup team by Swiss tennis authorities for a year. Upon his return to the tour, he was again absent soon thereafter, this time with suspected food allergies that hampered his ligaments and joints.
Laaksonen has since returned to the tour in the last 12 months or so, and met with success on the ATP challenger and Futures events. Baseline play being his strength, his game is naturally suited to the clay. Laaksonen won his first ever Grand Slam match earlier this year at the Australian Open, making the second round after being a qualifier.
Laaksonen had an impressive first round win against Spaniard Pedro Martinez Portero in three sets, which included winning 12 consecutive games in the first two sets.

Although Laaksonen has met with success in smaller clay court events of late, he has not had any success on the main tour. Lack of experience and/or success is not the ideal recipe to play Novak Djokovic at a Grand Slam.
Inspired by his first Grand Slam career win at the Australian Open earlier this year, the Swiss- Finnish player will look to bring his best to the contest. However, it is difficult to envision any trouble for the Serb in this encounter. Djokovic to win in three easy sets.
