Caroline Wozniacki v Veronika Kudermetova Head to Head

This match is a deja vu for the Danish as she met Kudermetova in the first round of the French Open a couple of weeks back. In a remarkable turn of events, the unseeded Russian trumped Wozniacki with 0-6, 6-3, 6-3.

An Easy Start for Wozniacki

Wozniacki kick-started her campaign for the maiden Wimbledon title with a comfortable win over Sara Sorribes Tormo in the first round. In fact, it wasn’t a win as much as the Spaniard succumbing to injury early in the first set.

Consequently, Tormo retired from the match at 4-5 and gave the Dane a walkover into the second round.

The China Open winner couldn’t have hoped for an easier start. There is a lot at stake for her at the moment and she needs all the energy she can get to make an impact. She started the year as World No. 3 but amidst injuries concerns and the subsequent loss in form, she is now ranked at the 19th place.

Wozniacki lost her opening matches back to back in Madrid, Rome, and Paris before getting some reprieve in Eastbourne. Even there, she reached as far as the third round before succumbing to Aryna Sabalenka.

With 30 titles under her belt, the Danish player is certainly capable and experienced. All she lacks is the momentum and rhythm, which she is slowly finding in London.

Kudermetova in an Imposing Form

The 22-year-old Russian started her run at the SW19 with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ysaline Bonaventure. She was absolutely clinical in that match, hitting 25 winners and winning 69% of her first service points. On the downside, she committed a lot of unforced errors.

Kudermetova got a head start in her grass swing preparations, as she first participated in the Libema Open. She reached the semifinal there and later in Eastbourne, she started as a qualifier but fell in the first round.

The Kazan-born player also enjoyed a good run in Nurnberg and Lugano and won the 125K series event in Guadalajara. While Kudermetova has some playing experience, she has never really managed to defeat one of the top guns (except for Wozniacki) on the tour yet.

Wozniacki v Kudermetova Predictions & Tips

There is no doubt that Wozniacki will start here as the favourite, but she will need to be cautious. She has fallen to lowly ranked players a few times already this season and that is something she will hope to avoid against Kudermetova. As for Russian, she is in a good form but playing someone as experienced as Wozniacki is a whole different ballgame. Expect a competitive match here.

Tip: Over 16.5 games in the match. (888Sport)
