Johanna Konta v Petra Kvitova Head to Head

The head to head tally is currently in the favour of Kvitova at 4-1. Interestingly, they have met twice on the grass courts and both of them have got a win each. They last met in Birmingham in 2018, where the Czech won 6-3, 6-4.

Kvitova, Looking Phenomenal

If last week has proven anything, it’s that nothing can stop Kvitova from playing tennis and winning matches if she sets her mind to it. Considering her form in London, it is hard to believe that just before the start of the tournament, there were concerns that she may not be 100% fit to even participate in the competition.

But in line with her personality and life, she has dispelled those concerns in great style. Yet to drop a set, the former Wuhan Open champion moved past the likes of Ons Jabeur, Kristina Mladenovic, and Magda Linette without any hesitations.

Her dominate service game has been on point and she has also done well to keep her unforced errors count on the lower side. Thankfully, her arm hasn’t given her any troubles as she looks primed to start the second week on a scintillating note.

The only time Kvitova was troubled this season was on the clay courts, mainly because of the injury she incurred. She ended the clay swing prematurely to prepare for the grass. The number 6 seed didn’t participate in any warm-up tournaments either.

She reached a couple of finals this season in the Australian Open and WTA Dubai and later won the Stuttgart Open. The left-handed player briefly a part of the top five too.

Konta Survives Stephens Challenge

Following what proved to be a comfortable start to her journey in Wimbledon, Konta met her first real challenge in the third round against Sloane Stephens. It was in that match that the Brit had to prove her worth and stake her claim as a force to be reckoned with.

After losing the first set, Konta moved on to stage a comeback of epic proportions. With the score tied at 3-6, 6-4, the number 19 seed started the final set with an early break point win. Ultimately, she took the final set 6-1. It wasn’t a clinical win for Konta but that got her through to the second week.

It is safe to say that we haven’t seen her play with this level of consistency in quite some time now. In fact, she found her groove on the clay courts when she reached the final in Rabat and Rome, and the semifinal in the French Open. All of this came after a somewhat poor performance on the hard courts.

Kvitova v Konta Predictions & Tips

This is a match that can very well go either way, but Kvitova will start as the favourite. She has a much better track record in London and has been in a fairly superior form this season. However, Konta is playing in front of her home crowd and that has got to amount to something. Expect a lot of sensational tennis here, with both the players not giving up without a fight.

Tip: Three sets in the match. (888Sport)
