Caroline Garcia, who earlier won the WTA Nottingham, presently finds herself going through bit of a rough patch on the tour. Being the French No. 1, the expectations are certainly high of her but she hasn’t been able to deliver that much.

Garcia is undoubtedly a prominent player, having won the Wuhan Open and China Open back to back in 2017. She has been a part of the top five as well and has certainly got what it takes to reach that height again. Currently ranked as World No. 22, the Frenchwoman has had her moments this season, including the winning run in Nottingham and the runner-up feat in Strasbourg.
Pliskova Looking to Make Some Waves
Kristyna Pliskova has proven that she has what it takes to deliver good wins. For instance, in Birmingham this season, she started as a qualifier and reached the quarterfinal after upsetting her sister Karolina in the second round.
Similarly, she also reached the semifinal in Lugano and the quarterfinal in Bucharest, the latter result coming in the last week. However, in terms of accomplishments and trophies, she falls way behind Garcia.
If she manages to get past Garcia in the opener, she may very well find herself playing in an easy bracket. And given her tendencies to succumb to defeats and inconsistencies, that is a real possibility here.
