Kyle Edmund v Lloyd Harris Head to Head

The two players have met once before this but that was on the Challenger circuit earlier this year. In that semi-final at the Indian Wells Challenger, Edmund needed to shrug off the loss of the second set to beat Harris and proceed to the final. He went on to win that title, his own tournament win this season.

Iffy Season for Edmund after Early Good Signs

Having won the aforementioned Indian Wells Challenger, Edmund made it to the round of 16 at both, the Indian Wells Masters and the Miami Masters, losing only to Roger Federer and John Isner respectively. But since then, the form has tapered off, and he hadn’t won two matches in a row at any tournament heading into the short grass swing.

In fact, since that fourth round appearance at Miami, Edmund’s win-loss record read a paltry 2-7 before he finally managed a semi-final appearance at Eastbourne. Even at Wimbledon, Edmund would have loved to go beyond his second round loss at the hands of Fernando Verdasco.

The Brit will hope to take some confidence from the hard court season earlier though, with those wins at the first two Masters competitions bolstering his chances in this US Open Series leading up to the last Grand Slam of the year.

Harris Halts Four-Match Losing Streak

Heading into this tournament, the South African world number 85, Harris, was on a four-match losing streak that began with a loss against Borna Coric at the French Open and saw him go down to Mischa Zverev, James Ward and Roger Federer after that. He looked to be headed out when he went a set behind Ricardas Berankis but came back strongly to register a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over his opponent in the opener at the Citi Open.

Harris had begun the year with a qualification to the main draw at the Australian Open and his best result came at the Launceston Challenger where he went on to win the title. A semi-final appearance at the Indian Wells Challenger and another at Ostrava have ensured he is now in the top 100 of the rankings.

This should be good enough for him to make the main draw of the US Open but can he now register the best result of his season by winning back to back main draw matches in an ATP tournament?

Edmund v Harris Predictions & Tips

Edmund is a heavy favourite to win this one but we think Harris might be able to take a set off Harris given the British player’s form in recent times.

Tip: Harris to win a set: 2/1 (888Sport)
