Bianca Andreescu v Eugenie Bouchard Head to Head
The two players met earlier this year in Newport Beach, in their one and only meeting so far on the circuit. Andreescu won that match in straight sets.
Bouchard on a Path to Resurgence
Just five years ago, Bouchard was a part of the top five while creating astounding feats and records in the process. However, a lot has changed for the Wimbledon and Wuhan Open runner-up since then.
Currently ranked in the early 100s, the Canadian has been struggling a lot with her form this year. In fact, her troubles on the court got so worse that she took an indefinite break in July after her disappointing performance in Lausanne.
Including her most recent result in the Washington Open, where she lost in the opener to Lauren Davis, Bouchard has gone without a win on the WTA Tour since February this year. She is playing in Toronto as a wildcard and in many ways, this will be an emotional match for her. The 25-year-old is facing an opponent who most definitely reminds her of her glory years when she was on the top.
However, not all is lost for Bouchard. She is a spirited player, determined to reach the top again and this match will be good practice for her.
Andreescu’s Return to the Tour
Andreescu, who is just 19 years old right now, was forced to take a break from the action after the French Open when she incurred a right shoulder injury. That injury put her out of the game for over two months, with her arrival in the Rogers Cup set to be a homecoming of sorts.
However, what makes her truly astonishing as a player is at the time of taking the injury break this year, her win-loss tally was at 32-4! She has lost just four matches this season, one of which was a final. She was the runner-up in the Auckland Open and later, won the Indian Wells and the 125K Series event in Newport Beach.
Bianca has already defeated many top players like Angelique Kerber, Garbine Muguruza, Elina Svitolina, and Caroline Wozniacki. She has been truly clinical and threatening although, her momentum has also taken a sharp hit.
