Karen Khachanov v Felix Auger-Aliassime Head to Head

The two players have never met on the ATP tour and this will be their first ever meeting.

Auger-Aliassime Looking For More Reason to Celebrate

Felix Auger-Aliassime turns 19 as he gets ready to play his third round match in Montreal, sharing his birthday with Roger Federer.

The Canadian teenager burst onto the ATP scene after success at the ITF and ATP Challenger levels. He is in his second year on the ATP circuit and has already reached a career high ranking of number 21.

Auger-Alliasime is an all-court player with a very effective serve, a decent volley and excellent athleticism. His ground strokes are precise as he can make his opponent run on court and finish up at the net.

In the midst of what has been a breakthrough year for him, the young Canadian has got off to a dream debut in Montreal defeating countrymen Vasek Pospisil and Milos Raonic. While he beat Pospisil in a final set tiebreak, he was tied at one set apiece with Raonic, before the older Canadian had to withdraw with a recurring back issue amidst emotional scenes.

Khachanov Confident After Victory Against Wawrinka

Branded as one of the players to watch out for among the upcoming next generation, Khachanov had a breakthrough 2018. The Russian ended the year ranked at number 11 in the ATP rankings and winning his first ATP 1000 Masters beating Novak Djokovic in the final.

The 2019 season has not been as kind to Khachanov as the previous year and the Russian has had many a disappointing loss this year. Early dismissals at the Australian Open, the ATP Masters 1000 on hard court and a continuing trend on clay and grass, and lesser known tournaments has been the story of Khachanov’s year thus far.

Although Khachanov has moved into the top 10 of the rankings, largely as a function of the performance of others, he is still looking to leave an impression as the leader of the pack outside the Big Three, and has not managed to do so yet.

Khachanov has a powerful all round game and does not hesitate to come up to the net. He is more dangerous and acquainted with the faster surfaces given his naturally powerful and attacking game and will be hoping to resurrect his season on the North American hard courts.

He is coming off an impressive second round win against Stanislas Wawrinka in a tight three setter with varying momentum throughout the match.

Khachanov v Auger-Aliassime Predictions & Tips

As many other matches this week, this match has the billing for a classic entertainer. Both players are earmarked to have a great career and future ahead in the sport and have looked like getting into excellent form this week.

Birthday boy Felix will have the crowd behind him, where as Khachanov will be full of confidence after his win against Wawrinka. This is likely another match that is going to depend on who plays the crucial points better.

A very even battle ahead, and match up for grabs; expect the home crowd to push the then 19 year old Canadian to the quarter-finals of the Rogers Cup.
