Daniil Medvedev v Kyle Edmund Head to Head

This will be a fourth meeting between Medvedev and Edmund on tour. Edmund leads 2-1, but it is the Russian who won their most recent match at Canada Masters 6-3, 6-0.

Medvedev Could Walk To Cincinnati As Masters 1000 Champion

Russian’s Daniil Medvedev has been in splendid form during the past couple of weeks on the North American hard-courts. The 23-year-old reached the showpiece final in Washington last week where he lost to an inspired Nick Kyrgios, but he did not let that disappointment deter his performances in Canada at the Rogers Cup.

Medvedev continued his consistent run of good results as he took out two top-10 players on his run to his maiden Masters 1000 final this week. A staggering statistic on the ATP tour shows that the man from Moscow has won more hard court matches on tour than anybody else since the beginning of 2018.

It is that streak which has largely played a part in Medvedev’s rise to a career-high ranking of World No.9. Although the Russian will face the daunting task of having to beat defending champion Rafael Nadal in the final of the Rogers Cup, nothing fazes him from recording an unlikely triumph.

Medvedev though could be weary and fatigued heading to Cincinnati on the back of two demanding weeks on tour especially with the US Open around the corner.

Edmund Lost Handily To Medvedev in Canada

Kyle Edmund will seek revenge from his damaging defeat to Daniil Medvedev in the pair’s meeting at the Rogers Cup. That second round 6-3 6-0 loss ensured that the British No.1’s renaissance suffered a halt and he will now need to put together a solid display to win matches yet again.

Edmund was ranked as high as No.14 at around this time last year after a breakthrough season which saw him make the semifinals of the Australian Open and win an ATP tour title in Antwerp.

He made great strides as far as British tennis was concerned particularly at a time when Andy Murray was still convalescing from hip pain. However, Edmund has found out that sustaining that level of success is becoming increasingly difficult.

After a terrible start to the year in which he lost in the first round in Melbourne, Edmund would miss two months of action due to injury. He returned at the Indian Wells Challenger in March and won the title. But success on tour has so far eluded him.

Medvedev v Edmund Predictions & Tips

Medvedev has no reported fitness concerns ahead of this meeting. He will be contesting the final of the Rogers Cup at the time of writing this preview. It will be his second successive tour-level final in as many weeks. Edmund on the other hand has a week to prepare for this meeting and is likely to benefit from having the fresher legs here.

Tip: Edmund to win: 7/4 (888Sport)
