Nick Kyrgios v Karen Khachanov Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between these two players on the ATP circuit.

Is a Strong Opener a Sign for Another Kyrgios Week?

Aussie Nick Kyrgios returns to Cincinnati where he was a finalist, losing to Grigor Dimitrov in 2017. His last two weeks have been as contrasting as possible, with a thunderous week in the capital winning the Citi Open, followed by a first round departure against Kyle Edmund the week after, in a one-sided straight set loss.

However, that defines Nick Kyrgios; oodles of talent, but it is all about the Kyrgios that turns up on any given day.

The Aussie had a strong showing in his first round match against young and upcoming Italian Lorenzo Sonego with a 7-5,6-4 win, in a match full of trick shots, power hitting and very strong serving by Kyrgios.

This sets up Kyrgios against Russian Karen Khachanov in a quarter of the draw that could potentially see him playing Novak Djokovic later on, in what would be a mouthwatering clash between the two, after the Aussie’s off court comments about the world number one.

Khachanov Looking to Build Momentum Further Ahead of US Open

After winning the 2018 ATP Masters in Paris, Russian Karen Khachanov was identified as one for bigger and greater things in the sport. However, he has not managed to maintain those levels of consistency for a good portion of 2019.

Given that he is most comfortable on the faster surfaces, with his naturally powerful and attacking game, he is hoping to resurrect his season on the North American hard courts.

Khachanov had an impressive showing at the Masters 1000 in Montreal last week with victories against Stanislas Wawrinka and local boy Felix Auger-Aliassime, before losing in the semi-finals to compatriot Daniil Medvedev.

Kyrgios v Khachanov Predictions & Tips

This is a match where it is hard to pick a winner ahead of time, but what is certain is that the tennis ball will be subject to some of the most explosive forehand hitting on either side of the net.

While Khachanov likes the hard courts and looked good in Montreal, there is nothing such a “form” from one match to another with Nick Kyrgios. However, given his comments after the opener, with him sending a signal to the Russian, one will expect the Aussie to bring his best game on Wednesday.

An entertaining battle on the cards with two exciting games and personalities. A three set battle looks likely, with Kyrgios having a very slight upper hand.

Tip: Bautista-Agut to win in straight sets: 4/5 (888Sport)
