Karolina Pliskova v Wang Yafan Preview & Tips:

This is the first time that Pliskova, seeded three and the 52nd-ranked Chinese Wang Yafan are facing off in an encounter. Pliskova is a former winner in Cincinnati, having lifted the title in 2016, and had followed it up with a semi-final next year but is coming off a couple of frustrating results – she went down in quarter-finals at Toronto after having lost in the fourth round at Wimbledon.

Her opponent Yafan won the title at Acapulco and then made it to the fourth round in Miami but since then has seen her form dip away. That Miami defeat triggered a seven-match losing streak that ended only at Mallorca where she made the quarter-final. She needed to qualify for this event, and then defeated Monica Puig in round one to set up this meeting. Looks to be an easy one for Pliskova but Yafan could give her a fight

Prediction: Games Handicap Yafan +5.5: 10/11 (888Sport) .

Aryna Sabalenka v Saisai Zheng Preview & Tips:

This comes in as an interesting match-up because on paper, the world number nine Sabalenka should start off overwhelming favourite to get past the 39th-ranked Saisai Zheng, but the head to head paints a different picture. In the two matches these two have played each other, Zheng leads her more illustrious opponent 2-0, which includes a win earlier this year at San Jose. It was at a final no less.

This is Sabalenka’s highest ranking too, but her recent record isn’t awe-inspiring. There was that final at San Jose, but she was toppled in the first round at Wimbledon, second round at the French Open and the third round at the Australian Open. And in between all that too, the struggles were real.

Zheng, a winner at San Jose, went down in round one at Toronto last week but now that she has passed that hurdle here, it will be interesting to see how she goes against an opponent who gave her, her last WTA match win.

Prediction: Three Sets in the Match: 7/4 (888Sport) .

Victoria Azarenka v Donna Vekic Preview & Tips:

As was the case in the Sabalenka-Zheng match-up, Azarenka and Vekic also last played each other in the San Jose Open and the Croat overcame her opponent in straight sets. That, incidentally was their only meeting.

Despite that, and the fact that Vekic has a better win-loss ration this season, Azarenka starts off as a favourite in this one with an offer of 13/15 for her win as compared to 21/20 for her opponent.

And that is something to be taken advantage of we feel because she has shown reasonable form on these hard court surfaces while Azarenka’s win in the first round over Belinda Bencic came after her opponent retired from her encounter.

Prediction: Donna Vekic to win: 21/20 (888Sport) .
