Andrey Rublev v Daniil Medvedev Head to Head

The two players have never met on the main draw of the ATP tour. They once met in the qualifiers of the Budapest Open which Medvedev won in straight sets.

Rublev Coming From The Biggest Win of His Career

Andrey Rublev on a comeback trail after injuries plagued him in 2018, scored the biggest win of his career defeating Roger Federer in the third round in Cincinnati.

The Russian played a close to flawless match defeating the seven-time champion 6-3, 6-4 in straight sets. Serving, returning and rallying well, Rublev did not give Federer much opportunity to get into any sort of rhythm.

Rublev had a breakthrough year in 2017, winning his first ATP title at the Croatia Open, qualifying for the US Open quarter-finals and being a finalist at the Next Generation ATP finals in Milan.

He reached a career-high ranking of 31 in early 2018. However, a back injury saw him out of action for most of 2018 and his return to the tour has been challenging, dropping to 70th in the rankings.

After defeating Dominic Thiem in the quarter-finals at Hamburg a week back, Rublev has had a phenomenal week coming through the qualifiers and defeating Nikoloz Basilashvili, Stanislas Wawrink and now Roger Federer back-to-back thereafter.

Strong Form Continues For Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev has been in excellent form for the last two weeks being runner-up at the Citi Open in Washington D.C. and at the Rogers Cup in Montreal.

He has continued his good form this week and not looked the least bit fatigued as he qualifies for another quarter-final, this time here in Cincinnati.

Medvedev got his year off to a strong start and was among the more successful players on the tour before a mix of poor form and fatigue saw him drop in the rankings during the clay court season. He has however, returned to form in recent weeks breaking into the top ten of the ATP rankings for the first time in his career.

The young Russian has been in excellent serving form through most of the US hard court season and been difficult to break, barring a poor showing against Rafael Nadal in the Montreal finals where Nadal won 6-3, 6-0.

Andrey Rublev v Daniil Medvedev Predictions & Tips

This promises to be an exciting match with both young players in excellent form at the moment. Rublev is on a resurgence and raring to prove a point. Medvedev on the other hand is looking to hone in on his consistency and make another deep run this weekend.

It will be an aggressive match-up with both being big serving players with powerful shotmaking. Not much to chose, with both coming into the match with a lot of confidence.

A few key points will separate the two players, but Medvedev has had the more consistent season and Rublev has to recover physically and emotionally having already played five matches at Cincinnati, one being a victory against Roger Federer.

A three set battle on the cards, with Medvedev inching past Rublev for a spot in the final four.

Tip: Medvedev to win in three sets: 3/1 (888Sport)
