Milos Raonic v Nicolas Jarry Head to Head
This will be the first time ever that Raonic and Jarry will face off at this level.
Raonic Fitness Under Scanner Starting Out
Having ended the previous year ranked 18th, Raonic has had a middling year 2019, which has seen him fall to the 22nd in the world at the moment. That is down to his showing in the US Open series, after losing in the second round at the Washington Open and Montreal Masters.
This comes on the back of some strong showing on the hard courts of Melbourne at the Australian Open, and at the Indian Wells Masters. In that first major of the year, Lucas Pouille overcame him in the quarter-finals while at the Indian Wells Masters, Thiem needed three sets to edge him out.
However, since then, Raonic’s fortunes have deteriorated with fitness issues having had their say as well. As recently as the Montreal Masters, he had to retire because of a spine injury and that could be a telling factor in this encounter.

Clay-Court Specialist Jarry Has His Own Issues
Jarry’s only match in the US Open series came at the Winston-Salem Open earlier this week and he was sent packing in the first round by Pablo Andujar in straight sets. Before that, he was busy playing on the clay courts of Bastad, Hamburg and then at the Pan American games.
And while he won the title at Bastad – his first ever ATP tournament win – his win-loss record of 7-11 otherwise isn’t one he would be too happy with. Which is why going into this encounter against Raonic, the more realistic option for Jarry would be to try and push Raonic deeper into the match and test out his fitness.
Raonic v Jarry Predictions & Tips
While there is no two ways that the Canadian is an overwhelming favourite going into this encounter, Jarry’s objective will be take the match into the fourth set and possibly the final set in a bid to test out Raonic’s health. Raonic to win this in either four or five sets for me.
Tip: Raonic to win in four sets: 10/3 (888Sport)
