Ashleigh Barty v Zarina Diyas Head to Head
The two players have met only once on the tour, back in 2013 in Kuala Lumpur. Barty was the winner there in straight sets.
Barty, in a Remarkable Form
The 23-year-old Ash Barty has been in a sensational form this season. With a win-loss tally of 42-8 and three big titles – one from each surface, the Aussie has been nothing but clinical throughout.
The cricketer-turned-tennis star won the French Open, Miami Open, and the Birmingham Classic. There have been only a few instances where Barty hasn’t gone beyond the early rounds in a tournament, the most recent one being the Rogers Cup.
However, she was quick to make amends for it in the Cincinnati Open, where she reached the semifinal losing ultimately to Svetlana Kuznetsova. She will be hoping it is sufficiently recovered to enable her to mount her bid to make tennis history.
Having found her stride only this season, the number two seed will be hoping for a good run here in New York. In her career so far, she has never made it past the fourth round although, this time around, she has her momentum and confidence to back up her play.

Diyas, with a Slim Chance
The Almaty-born Zarina Diyas hasn’t had as great of a season in comparison to Barty. With 30 wins and 20 defeats, she is currently ranked in the late 70s. She has focussed her attention on the ITF circuit where she has been successful to a certain extent.
However, that traction didn’t help her do much in the WTA events. Her best run of the year was her quarterfinal run in Washington, where she fell in the quarterfinal. A few weeks later, she played in Cincinnati where she started as a qualifier and made it to the second round.
Barty v Diyas Predictions & Tips
Barty will be expected to defeat her Kazakh adversary in straight sets although, the tennis courts in Flushing Meadows through the years have witnessed plenty of aberrations. In 2014, Diyas reached the third round in the US Open and that is something that she can repeat again. Barty, despite her strong form, isn’t the most immune player on the tour. All in all, an entertaining match for day one proceedings.
