In the one and only time the two ladies have met on the tour, Williams was the not-so-surprising winner there. They met in the 2015 WTA Zhuhai, where Venus won in three sets.

After what can only be described as a weak season, Williams’ chances of going the distance at the Flushing Meadows are rather low. At the start of the year, she reached the quarterfinal in Auckland and Indian Wells, sparking hopes of a dramatic resurgence.
But with time, that flame has dwindled as she struggled to make past the early rounds in big-ticket events like the Italian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the Rogers Cup. With very little to show for here, Williams eventually slipped out of the top 50.
But last week in Cincinnati, she showed a glimpse of that brilliance again. Venus made it to the quarterfinal there after defeating the likes of Kiki Bertens and Donna Vekic, registering such a run after a considerably long time. Ultimately, she fell to Madison Keys in a highly-spirited semifinal.

Zheng, in Decent Form
Zheng Saisai is heading into this fixture with a massive surge of confidence. Recently, she won her maiden WTA singles title at the WTA San Jose, where she defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
It was an impressive run by the 25-year-old Chinese, who defeated Maria Sakkari and Amanda Anisimova to reach the title. However, before that performance, Zheng lost the first-round matches in her preceding four tournaments. The same thing happened to her after her run in San Jose as well.
Zheng has proven herself on numerous occasions as an exceptional doubles player but unfortunately, she hasn’t been able to replicate that kind of finesse on the singles circuit. Nonetheless, she is a hard-working player with a lot of matches under her belt.

Williams will be expected to win this match although, it may not be among the most comfortable victories. While she has a lot of experience in comparison to Zheng, it will be difficult for her to completely subdue her opponent.
