Elina Svitolina v Madison Keys Head to Head
Keys leads Svitolina by 2-1, last defeating her in the US Open two years ago. The duo met earlier this season in the Australian Open, where the Ukranian won in three sets to draw her first blood.
Svitolina, with a Domineering Run
The 24-year-old Svitolina, who won the WTA Finals last season, has had a very good run in the US Open so far. Without dropping a set, she has made it past the likes of Whitney Osuigwe, Venus Williams, and Dayana Yastremska. In all of these matches, she has looked more and more comfortable and determined to break her title drought.
It has been a fairly decent season for World No. 5, who reached the semifinal in big-ticket tournaments like the WTA Dubai, Doha, Indian Wells Open and Wimbledon. While these runs helped her stay afloat in the top 10, she never managed to break further into the top three or so.
Most recently, she reached the quarterfinal and third round in Toronto and Cincinnati respectively, losing to Sofia Kenin on both the instances. Nonetheless, with a win-loss tally of 26-15 now, she is seeking to make amends for her previous loss in form.
Keys, a Top Favourite
As a runner-up here back in 2017, Keys is once again on track to repeat that feat again and possibly, go the distance. After starting the year on a dull note, she jumped back into the top 10, courtesy of her winning run in the Cincinnati Open.
With that kind of a run, where she dispatched Simona Halep, Venus Williams, and Svetlana Kuznetsova, she has staked her claim as a top player once again. As for her run in New York, it has been a comfortable one with easy wins over Misaki Doi, Lin Zhu, and Sofia Kenin most recently.
Keys also won the Charleston Open earlier this season and remains to be one of the few top players who have won a title in every tier except the International. There were also a few brief spells where the 24-year-old American struggled a bit with her form, but she has bounced back quite handsomely, and just in time. Her strike rate has now improved to 24-11.
Svitolina v Keys Predictions & Tips
This will be a good match to follow between the two, top 10 players. Truth to be told, this can very well go either way. Keys will have the edge here, given her track record in the competition and the fact that she will have the support of the crowd. However, Svitolina has been quite imposing herself and can very well make life difficult for the American.
