Andreescu, in an Imposing Form
On the surface, the 19-year-old Andreescu may look like your average tennis player but when we consider the form she has been in, she is more than worthy of being mentioned in the same league as Serena Williams, Simona Halep, Karolina Pliskova, and others.
With a win-loss tally of 41-4 now, she has not only established her dominance this season but made herself a force truly to be reckoned with. She is among the youngest players to win a Premier-level title and above by winning the Indian Wells Open and Rogers Cup. In the final of those tournaments, she defeated Angelique Kerber and Williams.
Andreescu was also out of the grass swing due to a shoulder injury. Despite being away from the tour for a good couple of months, she made a comeback and marched on as if nothing changed or happened. In Toronto, she defeated Eugenie Bouchard, Kiki Bertens, Pliskova, and Sofia Kenin to reach the final and win the title.
The same thing happened in the US Open too, where so far she has defeated Katie Volynets, Kirsten Flipkens, and most recently, Caroline Wozniacki.

The 23-year-old Taylor Townsend has done the impossible and established herself as the dark horse in this year’s edition of the US Open. Playing in her first tournament since Wimbledon, she has been nothing but brilliant. Starting as a qualifier, she defeated Simona Halep in the second in a sensational match. Post that, she knocked out Sorana Cirstea to make it this far.
Currently ranked World No. 93, the left-handed player has had a very dull year that mostly saw her get some success on the ITF circuit. She is more of a doubles player although, she did win the Australian Open juniors back in 2012.
Townsend hasn’t been that clinical as such but she will be pleased with her performance in the Flushing Meadows. This has been her best run on the WTA Tour till date and comes at a strike-rate of 18-12.
Townsend v Andreescu Predictions & Tips
This one is going to be an interesting fixture between the two young players. Andreescu, with the kind of momentum she has, can easily dispatch the American without batting an eye. At the same time, Townsend will have the support of the local crowd and transform that into a winning performance here. All said and done, the Canadian should get this one in three sets.
