The women’s defending champion Naomi Osaka faces her biggest test yet in the tournament against the Swiss talent Belinda Bencic. The pair has played each other four times on previous occasions, with Bencic leading the head to head three to one. What’s more, Bencic has beaten Osaka both times they faced off this year. One of the victories came on hard court in the Indian Wells Masters.

However, the biggest stage brings with it added pressure, and Bencic has yet to reach a quarter final since 2014 US Open.

World number Alexander six Zverev has made the second week of the US Open for the very first time, and he will be hoping to get to the quarter finals to match his Roland Garros run. He faces a tough match against the Argentine, Schwartzman.

Schwartzman has been in good form and yet to drop a set. On the other hand, Zverev has slogged his way through with his first two rounds going the distance.

The two have faced each other twice in their careers; Zverev winning their last match at the Paris Masters last year.

World number two Rafael Nadal has cruised through to the fourth round this year. He was handed a walkover in his second round by Kokkinakis, and dispatched Hyeon Chung in straight in the third round. Cilic has had a relatively tougher time. His third round saw him face off John Isner, which was a hard fought victory in four sets.

Nadal and Cilic have faced each other eight times with the Spaniard leading with six wins to Cilic’s two. The last meeting between the pair came on the hard courts of Masters Canada last year; Nadal won in three sets. Cilic will prove to be the toughest test for Nadal yet.

This is one of the highlight matches of the day, Bianca Andreescua taking on Taylor Townsend. Andreescu is in good form, beating Wozniacki straight in the previous round. This is her best showing at a slam yet. Andreescu faces American Taylor Townsend, who caused a major upset in the second round when she came from a set down to beat Simona Halep.

The pair faced each other in the doubles first round, where Taylor came off as the victor, but singles is a completely different tale. This is the first meeting in singles between the pair.

Donna Vekic has won all three previous matches against Julia Goerges in straight sets and they meet again. This is also her best showing at the Flushing Meadows. Julia Goerges beat Kiki Bertens straight in her third round, and just as Vekic, this is her best showing yet at US Open. The pair has faced each other thrice over their careers, with Vekic failing to beat the German in all three matches.

Andrey Rublev has been in scintillating form in the last couple of months. He has already managed to take out two seeded players at Flushing Meadows. He beat Tsitsipas in an epic battle and also Nick Kyrgios in the third round in straight sets.

Berrettini has a task ahead of him, but he certainly looks up for it. He beat young Aussie player Popyrin in the last round, displaying wonderful intent and composure.

The matchup between the two young players is sure to make for an exciting watch. They have split the two meetings between them. Rublev won their last meeting on an indoor hard court at Marseille.

Kristie Ahn has certainly made people take notice of her this year by taking out two former US Open champions in Svetlana Kuznetsova and Jelena Ostapenko in the third round in straight sets. This is the first time she has made it past the first round at any Grand Slam.

Elise Mertens has been in good form, making easy work of Andre Petkovic in her previous round. The Belgian lost in the fourth round last year to Sloane Stephens.

The two have met four times previously, splitting the wins equally. Ahn won in their last meeting just a month ago, at San Jose.

World number 13 Monfils fought an epic battle in the third round against Denis Shapovalov to win 6-7(5) 7-6(4) 6-4 6-7(6) 6-3. He will be hoping to make another quarter final appearance here after doing so in 2010 and 2014 and making the semis in 2016.

Andujar has progressed under the radar to reach the fourth round. This is the first time he has made the second week of a slam, dropping just one set in the opening round.

Monfils has won all three of their previous meetings, and will be the heavy favorite to make it four.
