Roberto Bautista-Agut v Pablo Andujar-Alba Head to Head

The pair has played each other once before, on the clay of Barcelona last year, with Bautista-Agut winning a third round match in straight sets.

Bautista-Agut, Consistent Performer in 2019

Bautista-Agut began the year in style, winning his ninth career title in Qatar.

Since then the 31-year old Spaniard has established himself as one of the most consistent performers on tour, reaching the semi-final at Wimbledon, and the quarter-final in Melbourne. He was also a quarter-finalist at three of the Masters series events played this year – in Miami, Montreal and Cincinnati.

Now the next challenge for him is to get to the next level, and start challenging for the major honours on a regular basis.

He comes to the tournament not having played a competitive match since his shock first round defeat to Mikhail Kukushkin at the US Open, although he was an alternate for Team Europe at the Laver Cup.

Andujar-Alba, Spanish Clay Court Specialist

33 year old Andujar-Alba has been in nine senior ATP career finals, winning four of them, his most recent success being the Grand Prix Hassan II in Morocco last year, a tournament in which he also finished runner-up this year. It is a measure of where the strength of his game lies that all those finals have been contested on clay.

And to underline that fact even further, he has made 25 finals on the junior Challenger and ITF tours, and yet again, all those matches have been on clay, accruing no fewer than three titles this year – at Marbella and Alicante in Spain, and Prostejov in the Czech Republic.

It is, therefore, something of a surprise that he recorded his best ever performance at a Grand Slam in New York last month, reaching the fourth round before losing to Gael Monfils.

And he proved again that he can acquit himself well on a hard court by coming from a set down to beat Steve Johnson of the United States in the first round here on Tuesday.

Bautista-Agut v Andujar-Alba Predictions & Tips

Bautista-Agut is the clear odds-on favourite to win this match at 31/100, whilst Andujar-Alba priced at 253/100. Whilst Andujar-Alba has shown he can compete on a hard court, he is happier on clay, and his opponent should have too many weapons at his disposal in this match.

Tip: Bautista-Agut to win in straight sets: 5/6 (888Sport)
