Before last week’s China Open title, Thiem’s season was seemingly fizzling out after an impressive start to the year. After winning in Indian Wells and Barcelona, Thiem reached his second consecutive French Open final before once again losing to Rafael Nadal. The world number five came into form at the right time and had a solid week in Beijing. He beat Andy Murray, Karen Khachanov & Stefanos Tsitsipas on the way to his 15th career title.

He also became the fifth player to confirm his spot at the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals in London. Being the fourth seed in Shanghai, he got a bye in the first round.

Dominic Thiem v Pablo Carreno Busta Predictions & Tips

Both the players go into the match after winning a title recently on the back of a relatively inconsistent last couple of months. Both of them also prefer the clay courts more than any other surface, but the humid weather and having played nine matches in less than two weeks will take its toll on the Spaniard.

Expect Thiem to go past Carreno Busta smoothly.
