Dominic Thiem v Matteo Berrettini Head to Head
The pair have only met once before on the tour. Thiem prevailed in four sets at the French Open 2018.
Dominic Thiem: Austrian on a Seven-Match Winning Streak
After confirming his ATP World Tour Finals qualification with the title at China Open last week, Thiem has been in impressive form this week, winning both his matches in straight sets.
The 26 years old Austrian has worked a lot on his mental toughness this year. The ability to play the big matches better has been visible in his record this year. In 2017 & 2018, Thiem reached a total of 12 semi-finals and went on to win only four of them. This year he has already won four tournaments on seven occasions where he has reached the last four.
His round of 16 victories against Basilavshvili was his 40th this season, a fourth straight year where he has achieved this feat.
Berrettini’s Impressive Year Continues with Another Victory
23-year-old Italian, Berrettini has had a breakout season this year. Apart from winning two ATP titles and one challenger titles, he also becomes the first player from his country to reach the semi-finals at the US Open since 1978. He lost to eventual champion Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals.
He suffered a minor blip in form after his US Open, where he crashed out in early rounds at Saint Petersburg & Beijing. But he seems to have put it past him with three convincing straight-sets victories this week.
At the start of the week, he was 13th in the race to qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals. In the previous round, he beat Roberto Bautista Agut, who is currently number 10 in the world as well as seventh in the race to London.
