Borna Coric v Fernando Verdasco Head to Head

The pair have met once before, in this same tournament four years ago, Coric winning a first round match in three sets..

Coric Progress Hampered by Injury

2019 started well for Coric. He reached the fourth round in Melbourne, the semi-finals in Dubai, and then the quarter-finals at the next two Masters events, in Miami and Monte Carlo.

Then injury struck, forcing him to retire from the tournament in Halle, and to miss Wimbledon altogether. He returned prior to the US Open, but then he had to withdraw from the event before his second round match.

Since his return to fitness, he made his first final of the year in St. Petersburg, where he lost to Daniil Medvedev, and reached the quarter finals in Zhuhai.

However, he has gone out in the first round in his last three tournaments – Japan, Shanghai, and, last week, Vienna.

Verdasco, a Spanish Clay Court Player

Verdasco has won seven senior ATP singles titles, but the last of those victories came three years ago in Bucharest on clay, his favourite surface. It has also been nine years since his solitary appearance in the final of a Masters event, the 2010 Monte Carlo tournament, when he was thrashed by compatriot Rafael Nadal.

This year the best he has managed has been three quarter-finals – in Sofia, Eastbourne, and Kitzbuhel – but, like his opponent on Monday, his recent form has been poor. He lost in the second round in Metz, Chengdu and Vienna last week, and went out at the first time of asking in Shanghai.

Coric v Verdasco Predictions & Tips

Coric is the odds on favourite to win this match at 4/6, whilst Verdasco is priced at 6/5. Whilst neither man has been playing well recently, Coric, at 22 years of age, has time on his side as opposed to his opponent, thirteen years older, who is heading towards the twilight of his career. The Croat won their only previous match at this same event four years ago, and should do so again.

Tip: Coric to win in straight sets: 13/8 at 888Sport
