He won the China Open at Beijing, was a quarter-finalist at the Masters 1000 in Shanghai and is now in the final here in Vienna.

Having already secured his place in the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals, the top seed is looking for his first tile here in Vienna. He has been tested this week but come out strong, with wins against Jo-Wilfriend Tsonga, Fernando Verdasco and Matteo Berrettini.

Schwartzman in Reckoning for London?

It has been another steady year for Argentine Diego Schwartzman, who was a quarter-finalist at the US Open, performed well during the Latin American clay court swing, and has maintained his rankings in the top 15 in the world.

While his season has not been as impressive as the last year and a half or so was for him, the Argentine has turned things around this week, after a below par run during the Asian swing, and at Antwerp last week. Schwartzman has secured impressive wins this week against Sam Querrey, Karen Khachanov and Gael Monfils here in Vienna.

The Argentine remains a somewhat distant contender for the Tour Finals in London, but a win here in Vienna would bolster his chances, making next week’s Paris Masters 1000 all the more ikmportant for him.

Given the current form of both players, this could be a close encounter, despite the obvious home conditions and support for Thiem. It would be no surprise if Schwartzman continued with the form he has been in all week, but we can expect the home crowd push Thiem through to his first title in Vienna.
