Frances Tiafoe v Taylor Fritz Head to Head

The pair have met twice so far on tour with both of them having won one match each. Tiafoe won their first encounter at Indian Wells back in 2016. Fritz avenged the loss a few months later at Winston Salem.

A Disappointing Year for Tiafoe So Far

Tiafoe won his maiden ATP title last year at the Delray Beach Open and also reached the final at Estoril. Impressive performances in Miami and Toronto masters got him to qualify for the Next Gen ATP finals as well.

But this year has been a reality check for the 21-year-old. He started the year impressively with a quarter-final appearance at the Australian Open. Since then, his performances have been very inconsistent, and his win-loss record is a mediocre 17-22. In fact, this is the first year since he turned pro that his win-loss record has had more losses than victories in a calendar year.

He did show glimpses of his talent during his Miami and Madrid Masters, but those have been too few this season. Last week he reached the last eight in Belgium but lost to John Sinner in three sets. This is his second appearance in Paris; he reached round two last year.

He will be hoping for an impressive showing this week to get back into form before next week’s Next Generation ATP Finals in Milan.

Fritz’s Season has Nosedived in the Last Stretch

This season has been a tale of two halves for the young American. Till the start of August, his win-loss record for the year was 36-19 with a challenger title at Newport Beach, ATP title at Eastbourne, and two further tour finals at Atlanta and Los Cabos. He was as high as 25 in the rankings, with the top 20 being the next aim.

But since then, his performances and results both have dipped massively. He has only won three matches in almost three months now. He has gone out of the opening two rounds in the last nine events he has played in.

He has shown glimpses of his talent by beating Dominic Thiem & Alexander Zverev this month. But both of those victories were followed by a loss as he failed to capitalize on the momentum.

Fritz will be hoping to arrest the slide with a victory here in Paris and end the year on a positive note.

Frances Tiafoe v Taylor Fritz Predictions & Tips

Apart from a few impressive performances, Tiafoe has been disappointing throughout the season. Fritz, on the other hand, has seen his season go into free fall after an impressive first half. A victory here can really go a long way into boosting the confidence of both the players.

Tiafoe’s stronger serve will give him a slight edge in the indoor courts.
