Novak Djokovic v Grigor Dimitrov Head to Head

The pair have played each other nine times before, and Djokovic leads their head-to-head series by eight matches to one. The Bulgarian’s only victory came on the clay of Madrid six years ago; Djokovic has won all their subsequent meetings, including a third round encounter at this event three years ago.

Djokovic, Closing on Fifth Paris Title

A four-time previous winner of this tournament, Djokovic appears determined to clinch victory in Paris for a fifth time, after an utterly dominant performance in his quarter-final against the world number seven, Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Playing the man who had knocked him out of the last Masters event in Shanghai, the Serb produced a ruthless display, allowing the Greek just three games in a match that lasted less than an hour.

That followed comfortable victories in the second round against Corentin Moutet of France, and then Kyle Edmund of Great Britain in the third, and suggests he is on track to win a record 34 Masters series title and a 77th tournament win in all.

What will have tennis fans rubbing their hands together in anticipation is that he will potentially meet Rafael Nadal in the final, a showdown between the world’s top two in Paris.

Dimitrov, Enjoying Season Finale

Unlike Djokovic, Dimitrov has no chance of being involved in this year’s ATP finals in London – an event he won just two years ago – which means that, with Bulgaria not involved in the Davis Cup Finals, this is his last event of 2019.

He is ending what has been a difficult season with something of a flourish. Having seen his ranking slide as a result of consistently poor form, it was his run to the semi-finals at the US Open which served as the trigger which helped to arrest his decline.

Following that he reached the quarter-finals in Chengdu, but, after disappointing results in  Beijing, Stockholm and Vienna last week, he was not in the best of form coming into this event.

Despite that, he has enjoyed his stay in France this week.

In the first round he beat local favourite Ugo Humbert, and then knocked out the number 12 seed, David Goffin of Belgium, in straight sets in the second. He then had one of the best wins of his recent career in the third, dumping the number five seed, Dominic Thiem out of the event, again in straight sets.

That gave him a quarter-final against Christian Garin, and he beat the Chilean with ease, notching up another straight sets win.

Djokovic v Dimitrov Predictions & Tips

Djokovic is the overwhelming favourite to win this match at 3/19, whilst Dimitrov is priced at 5/1. It has been six years since Dimitrov has beaten the Serb, and that was on clay when he was in significantly better form than he has enjoyed recently. Given the way that Djokovic demolished Tsitsipas on Friday, it is very hard to see beyond another comfortable win for the world number one.

Tip: Djokovic to win in straight sets: 4/9 at 888Sport
