Alex de Minaur v Alejandro Davidovich Head to Head

The pair have never met before. This will be the first match between the two players separated by 75 places in the world rankings.

De Minaur, A Beaten Finalist Last Year

De Minaur is the highest ranked player in the event, and will start the week as pre-tournament favourite. The beaten finalist from last year, who lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece in four sets, he is now another year older and already battle-hardened after a full season on the main tour.

He has also enjoyed more than his fair share of success in 2019, having reached four finals already.

His winning sequence began in January in front of his home fans when we won the Sydney Open, and then in July, he won the Atlanta Open in the United States. His third title came in Zhuhai in China in September, where he beat the Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in the final.

He did suffer defeat in the final of the Swiss Indoors Championships in Basel two weeks ago, but to lose to Roger Federer in an event he has practically made his own was by no means a disgrace.

Davidovich Fokina Starts as a Tournament Outsider

World 97 Davidovich Fokina is the lowest ranked player in the competition, and the least experienced of all the players when it comes to playing on the senior tour. In fact, he has earned his place in Milan primarily due to his exploits on the ATP Challenger circuit.

The Junior Wimbledon Champion from 2017 reached the first of his finals in Bangkok in February, and then followed that up with another appearance in the last two in Genoa, Italy in September. Although he lost both of those finals, he went on to win the next two he contested, in Sevilla and then, last month, in Luizhou, China, where he beat Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in the final.

De Minaur v Davidovich Fokina Predictions & Tips

De Minaur is the overwhelming odds-on favourite to win this match at 1/8, whilst Davidovich Fokina is priced at 6/1. Although only a few months separate them in terms of age, the Australian is vastly more experienced than his Spanish opponent, and should get his quest for the title in Milan off to a comfortable start.
