Murray got a hip resurfacing surgery in January and just a few months later, won the Queen’s Club Championships with his doubles partner Feliciano Lopez. Impressively, Murray won a singles title at Antwerp after returning to tennis after seven months. He has shown great passion to return to the level he used to play at earlier.
The Brit is set to begin the season at the ATP Cup representing his country alongside Cameron Norrie. Murray will then play at the Australian Open and hopefully to the Auckland Open which Murray’s fellow teammate hopes he will play in.
Norrie, who played for New Zealand before deciding to play for Great Britain made it to the finals of the Auckland Open in 2019 but lost to Tennys Sandgren. He said he is hoping that Murray will accept a wild card to play in Auckland.
He said to NZME:
“I’ll let [tournament director] Karl know that I will try and get Andy coming, it would be nice.”
About Murray’s comeback, Norrie added:
“It’s pretty incredible what he’s done to try to come back especially with all the setbacks he had.”
Murray’s performance at the ATP Cup and the Australian Open is highly anticipated by those wishing for his return to the top ranks.
