Grand-Slam champion Andy Murray has encountered a new hiccup on his way to a perfect return to the new season. Murray cancelled his training block in Miami after injuring his groin area during his first Davis Cup match.

Murray was unable to play any other matches after suffering bruising his pelvis. Despite a brilliant return post his hip resurfacing surgery in January, it seems as though Murray will have a tough road ahead.

Just seven months after his surgery, Murray returned to the courts and won the Queen’s Club Championship with his doubles partner Feliciano Lopez. Murray then went on to perform very well and improved his rankings from outside the Top 500 to ranking just outside the Top 100 at 126. The Brit also won a singles title at Antwerp defeating world no.18 Stan Wawrinka.

However, despite the recent setback, Murray is still confirmed to play at the ATP Cup at the opening match against Bulgaria. Murray will lead Great Britain’s team with Daniel Evans. Britain has been placed in Group C along with Belgium, Bulgaria and Moldova.

Murray has been training at the gym but is not able to step out onto the courts according to sources from the Telegraph UK.

Last month, his fitness trainer Matt Little, said:

“There has been no blueprint for this. In fact, the right hip is the best thing about his body right now. It’s a brand new metal joint. It’s his other hip, his shoulders, his back, his knees – all these other things will all bear the brunt of competition as well. They will be working probably even harder to support that right hip.”

However, Murray’s spirit is undeterred as he is sure that he will participate in the Australian Open, the spot where he played an unforgettable match last season with Roberto Bautista Agut which he thought would be the final tournament of his career.

His performance at the ATP Cup early next year will determine where he stands with his injury and fitness and if he will be able to come back strong at the Australian Open which will commence soon after on January 20.
