Dominic Thiem v Borna Coric Head to Head

The pair have played each other four times before, with Coric leading their personal series by three matches to one, although they have not met since the Paris Masters in 2018, when Coric won in three sets.

Thiem Looking to Build on 2019’s Achievements

2019 was Thiem’s most successful year on tour – he won five finals, including the prestigious Indian Wells Masters, and finished the year with his highest ever world ranking of four. However, it is the two finals he failed to win – the French Open, where he lost to perennial clay court rival, Rafael Nadal, and the ATP finals in London, where he was beaten by Stefanos Tsitsipas – which will motivate him to try and achieve more in 2020.

2019 also demonstrated his evolution from just a clay court specialist into an all-court player, but he will know that surely his best chance of winning a Grand Slam lies in Paris, and Roland Garros in June will again be a major target for him.

Can Coric Stay Clear of Injury This Year?

Coric began 2019 as a Davis Cup winner and the World Number 12, looking to add to his two senior ATP career titles. Yet, after a promising start to the year which saw him reach the last 16 in Melbourne, and the semi-finals in Dubai, a back injury saw him miss several months of the season and, when he returned, he struggled to find his best form again, and suffered first round defeats in the last four tournaments he entered.

Beginning this year down at 28 in the world, his challenge for 2020 is to stay clear of injury and to start to climb the world rankings again.

Dominic Thiem v Borna Coric Predictions & Tips

Despite Coric’s superior head to head record, Thiem will go into this match clear favourite. He was one of the form players of 2019, whereas the Croat’s season was blighted by injury. Coric faces a struggle to get back to his best form, whereas Thiem will start the year with Grand Slam ambitions.

Tip: Thiem to win in straight sets: 10/11 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
