Alexander Zverev v Egor Gerasimov Head to Head

This will be the first match between the 22-year-old Zverev and 27-year-old Gerasimov at the highest level.

Zverev Finally Wins a Match

It had been an inauspicious start to the season for the seventh-ranked Zverev who participated at the ATP Cup earlier this season. And while he was dealt a tough draw, losing all three matches – to Alex de Minaur, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Denis Shapovalov – would have hardly been the kind of result he would have bargained for.

Which is why his first round win over the former world number 16 Marco Cecchinato would have come as a huge relief and not just because he won but also because the victory came in straight sets. Zverev triumphed 6-4, 7-6, 6-3.

The German will have tougher contests ahead but he now faces a near-100th-ranked player in this second round and that should give him that breathing space he so would want for those difficult matches.

Gerasimov Also Wins Maiden Encounter

The Belarusian has never been ranked in the top 90 in the world and is more known for his play at the Challengers circuit – having won nine titles at that level. Gerasimov began his season with the Doha Open qualifiers where he went down to Marton Fucsovics in the very first qualifying round and then followed it up with an appearance at the Bendigo Challenger.

Even there, Gerasimov was sent packing in the first round in straight sets by an opponent who had gone into the match with odds of 7/2 associated with him. A shock loss it was.

Which is why his first round win over the 48th-ranked Casper Ruud would have come as a huge upset. He ran away to a two set lead but the party seemed to be over when Ruud levelled the match at two sets apiece. However, Gerasimov came back stronger in the final set to win it in a humdinger of a tie-breaker to set up this second round match against Zverev.

Alexander Zverev v Egor Gerasimov Predictions & Tips

Zverev should have no real trouble in getting past Gerasimov, probably even win in straight sets. If you are looking for a riskier market, the Games Handicap has Zverev at 11/10 for minus 6.5.

Tip: Zverev to win in straight sets: 5/6 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
