Sofia Kenin v Ons Jabeur Head to Head

The pair have met three times before, with Kenin winning on each occasion. That includes their two meetings in 2019, in Hobart and Mallorce, although Jabeur was forced to retire early from that second match with injury.

Kenin Ends Coco Gauff’s Fairy Tale

21-year-old Kenin has been progressing up the world rankings steadily in the past few years, bursting into the world’s top 100 in 2018, and then progressing into the top twenty at the end of last year.

Yet, for the woman voted the Most Improved Player of 2019, the quarter-final of a Grand Slam is still unknown territory. Her previous best was a run to the fourth round in Paris last year, and she had only ever won a single previous match in Melbourne prior to this year.

However, the American who won her third WTA title in Guangzhou last September, enjoyed a serene passage to the fourth round, beating Martina Trevisan of Italy, compatriot Ann Li, and Shuai Zeng of China all in straight sets.

There was nothing easy though in her match with Coco Gauff, conqueror of Naomi Osaka and Venus Williams on Sunday, especially when she double-faulted in the tie-break to hand the first set to the 15 year old. However, she composed herself and rallied, levelling the match, before claiming the third set to love, ending the hopes of the teenager.

Jabeur, an Arab History-Maker

When she beat Caroline Wozniacki on Friday, Jabeur made history, becoming the first Arab woman ever to make the fourth round in a Grand Slam. And now she has gone one better by reaching the quarter-finals, a feat that will make her famous, not only in her native Tunisia, but across the whole of North Africa, and the Middle East as well.

To get there she had to overcome the Chinese woman, and number 27 seed Qiang Wang, who had won both their two meetings, including a comprehensive victory in Shenzen just a few weeks ago.

Yet, adopting an aggressive attitude from the start, Jabeur out-hit her opponent, making 29 winners to her opponent’s 11, and completely dominating on second serve.

Sofia Kenin v Ons Jabeur Predictions & Tips

Despite being younger, Kenin is the more experienced of the two when it comes to major tournaments, and has beaten the Tunisian every time they have previously met. That will make her the favourite to progress, but Jabeur will enjoy her underdog status, and will push her all the way.

Tip: Kenin to win in straight sets: 6/5 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
