Jennifer Brady v Marketa Vondrousova Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 24 year old American, and her Czech opponent, four years her junior.

Brady, Inconsistent but Dangerous Opponent

24 year old Brady has never won a senior WTA title, but did reach the final of the WTA 125k event in Indian Wells last year, where she was beaten by the Swiss player Viktorija Golubic. She has also won 4 titles on the junior ITF circuit, the most recent of which came in Granby, Canada in 2016.

She is a very inconsistent player, who can compete with the best one day, and suffer easy defeats the next. That can be seen from the fact that she has never got beyond the fourth round at a Grand Slam, or the third round stage at a Premier Mandatory or Premier 5 event.

However, the world number 52 can also be a very dangerous opponent, as Ashleigh Barty in Brisbane last month, and Elina Svitolina on Tuesday, here in Dubai, found out to their cost, both beaten in straight sets.

Vondrousova, Looking for Form after Injury Lay-Off

Vondrousova won her maiden WTA title as a 17 year old, at the Ladies’ Open Biel, Bienne in Switzerland, but really shot to fame last year when she reached the final of the French Open as a teenager without dropping a set, before losing to Ashleigh Barty.

Soon afterwards though, she picked up the wrist injury when losing in the first round of Wimbledon, which eventually required surgery, ruling her out for the rest of the season.

It is fair to say that her comeback in 2020 could have gone better.

It began reasonably well in Adelaide, where she got to the third round, before losing to Barty again. But then she was beaten in the first round of the Australian Open, losing to the former Grand Slam winner, Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia. And, last week, in St. Petersburg, where she was the number five seed, she also lost in the first round, this time to the Australian Ajla Tomljanovic.

Her first round victory in straight sets over Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia in the first round here in Dubai was, therefore, an important morale booster.

Jennifer Brady v Marketa Vondrousova Predictions & Tips

Vondrousova has already had one victory over Brady in Dubai in the doubles. Together with Karolina Muchova, she beat Brady and her partner, Sevastova in three sets on Tuesday. And she will start favourite against an opponent who can cause a big surprise, as she did in beating Svitolina, but rarely strings together two big wins in a row.

Tip: Vondrousova to win in three sets: 11/4 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
