Qualifier Kudermetova Stuns Yastremska
In a tournament like the Dubai Open here, where the top players in the world are all vying for top honours, even a 39th-ranked player like Veronika Kudermetsova had had to come through the qualifiers to make the main draw.
And things looked to be slipping out of her hands when the more-fancied Dayana Yastremska, who was 2/5 to win the match, took the first set in the match. Not to be deterred, Kudermetova fought back and showed a lot of resilience in tight situations, eventually forcing a final set tie-breaker which she won 7-2.
The Russian had earlier also made it to the semifinal at the Hobart International and will be gunning for another scalp in the form of the former world number one. Sitting close to her career-best ranking of 39th in the world, another win here for Kudermetova could greatly improve her chances to breaking into the top 30 very soon.

It should come as no surprise Muguruza is a favourite but at 2/7, it sounds like bit of a stretch. There were occasions when her game slipped away in the opening round as well, and if Kudermetova takes her chances she might be in with a chance for another set victory.
