Denis Shapovalov v Alexander Bublik Head to Head

The pair have never faced each other on the tour. This will be the first time that the 21-year-old Canadian and the 22-year-old Kazakh will be meeting.

Shapovalov Finally Breaks his Losing Streak

Since winning in the opening round at the Auckland Open over a month ago, the talented Canadian was on a terrible run of form. After losing in the second round then he lost another three consecutive matches crashing out in the opening round at the Australian Open, Montepellier and Rotterdam.

His fighting victory against Marin Cilic in the second round here would be a huge relief.

Shapovalov will have to find his form back again quickly if he wants to maintain his current world number 15 ranking. He had a solid 2019 where he won his maiden title at Stockholm and reached the semi-finals at Miami and Winston Salem. But arguably his best run of results came at the Paris Masters where he reached the final beating Alexander Zverev and Gael Monfils along the way. He finished the season with an impressive 42-28 win-loss record.

This is his third appearance at the event. By reaching the quarter-finals he has already surpassed his previous best showing of reaching the round of 16 last year.

Bublik Coming off a Victory Over Top 20 Player Paire

An early loss here in Marseille would have meant that Bublik would have gone out in the opening two rounds at six consecutive events this year.

And when he lost the opening set of his second-round match against the world number 20 Benoit Paire, it looked like a real possibility. But he made a brilliant comeback in that match by winning the last two sets and reaching his first quarter-final since last September.

Currently ranked 55 in the world, Bublik had a very impressive 2019 campaign. He came close to winning his maiden title twice, first at Newport and then at Chengdu. Bublik also won three challenger level titles and ended the season with a career-high ranking of 48. He also achieved his best Grand Slam run when he reached the third round at the US Open.

Denis Shapovalov v Alexander Bublik Predictions & Tips

This is a potential banana skin match for Shapovalov. He isn’t in the best of the form right now and Bublik can be a dangerous opponent on his day. This is likely to be a close match and the first break of serve is going to be crucial.

Tip: Shapovalov to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
