Maria Sakkari v Julia Goerges Head to Head

The pair have met four times on the tour so far. Sakkari won their first-ever meeting at the WTA Madrid back in 2016. But the German has won the remaining three meetings at Saint Petersburg and Birmingham in 2018 and once again in Saint Petersburg last year.

Sakkari Looking to Get Back to the Winning Way

The 21-year-old Greek has been a player that has improved steadily with each passing year on the tour. She reached her maiden final in 2018 at her home tournament in Athens. She went one step further and won her maiden title on the tour last year by winning at Rabat. Sakkari finished last season with a win-loss record of 35-24.

At the start of this year, she reached the round of 16 at the Australian Open and had an impressive run till the semi-finals at the Saint Petersburg Open.

She achieved her career-best ranking of 21 on the back of this strong start to the season. But she crashed out in the first round at Dubai against Aryna Sabalenka. This is the third time she is playing in Doha and a win here would be her best showing at the event.

Goerges Closing in on 500 Career Wins

The 31-year-old German turned pro almost 15 years ago and is closing in on 500 wins in her career now. She has been a remarkable model of consistency during this time. The fact that she has only been outside of the top 100 in the rankings for four weeks in the last nine seasons is a testament to that.

Last year she won her seventh career title at Auckland and reached two further finals at Birmingham and Luxemburg. This year she has been able to get through the opening rounds at all the events comfortably but hasn’t managed to go deep in the tournament anywhere.

She reached the quarter-finals at Auckland before reaching the round of 16 at Adelaide and third round at the Australian Open. Goerges could not make it to the main draw at Dubai and went out at the qualifiers stage.

This will be her seventh appearance at the event where she has been a quarter-finalist for the last two years.

Elena Rybakina v Sorana Cîrstea Predictions & Tips

Both the players have had a solid start to the season and this is likely to be a close encounter. Sakkari starts the match as a slight favourite considering she is a more comfortable hard court player.
