Felix Auger-Aliassime v Alex Bolt Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, last month in the quarter final of Adelaide, Auger-Aliassime winning easily in straight sets.

Auger-Aliassime, Twice Beaten Finalist in February

19-year-old Auger-Aliassime is acquiring a reputation as the “nearly man” of tennis, having been in five finals in the past year, and having lost them all.

His run began last February when he lost in Rio to Laslo Dere, and continued to Lyon and Stuttgart, where he was beaten by Benoit Paire, and Matteo Berrettini respectively.

And it has been the same old story this month, with defeats to Gael Monfils in Rotterdam, and then at the hands of Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Open 13 in Marseille on Sunday.

However, there are consolations to be had. In the first place, his form is such that he is putting himself into contention to win tournaments, suggesting that, by the law of averages, one day soon he will get over the line. And the fact that he is back competing at the highest level again proves that he is fully recovered from the ankle injury which brought last season to a premature end for him.

Bolt, Australian Qualifier in Acapulco

World 140 Bolt turned pro in 2009 but, like his compatriot Ashleigh Barty, quit the sport for a while, choosing to play Australian Rules football, and work as a fence builder.

Since his return to competitive tennis, he has progressed slowly up the rankings, although it was not until 2018 that he recorded his first ATP main singles win. A year later, he reached the third round of the Australian Open, before losing to Alexander Zverev of Germany.

This year he reached the third round of the Challenger event in Burnie, and the final of the subsequent tournament in Launceston, where he lost to the Egyptian Mohamed Safwat.

He failed to qualify for the Delray Beach Open, but has made the main draw in Acapulco after beating Sebastian Ofner of Austria, and then the experienced Bosnian Damir Dzumhur.

Felix Auger-Aliassime v Alex Bolt Predictions & Tips

This should be a comfortable opener for Auger-Aliassime as he begins his quest for that elusive first ATP title. He beat the Australian easily in their first match six weeks ago, and can be expected to do so again.
