Sofia Kenin v Dayana Yastremska Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, both matches coming last year. Yastremska won their encounter in the second round of Wimbledon, but Kenin gained her revenge at the Canadian Open.

Kenin Looking to Get Back into Groove

Kenin began 2019 ranked outside the top 50, but enjoyed a great year, reaching four WTA finals and winning three of them – in Hobart, Mallorca and Guangzhou. As a result she became the first American since Serena Williams to be voted WTA Most Improved Player of the Year, and rose to a career high of 14.

Despite that though, few could have predicted what would happen to her in Melbourne, especially as she lost in the second round in the two warm-up tournaments in Brisbane and Adelaide.

Yet she got to the third round of the Australian Open for the first time and just kept going, eventually reaching the semi-finals where she beat the pre-tournament favourite and local player, Ashleigh Barty. She then overcame Garbine Muguruza to win her maiden Grand Slam.

Understandably, it has taken a little time since then to get her feet back on the ground. She had mixed results playing in the Fed Cup for the USA, beating Anastasija Sevastova, but losing to her Latvian colleague Jelena Ostapenko.

And, last week in Dubai, she was beaten first time out by Elena Rybakina in three sets.

Yastremska, a Rising Ukrainian Star

After a successful junior career which saw her reach the final of the singles at Wimbledon and the doubles at the Australian Open, Yastremska has been busy translating that form to the senior tour. Although only 19, she has already won 3 ITF and 3 WTA titles – the Hong Kong Open in 2018, and last year, the Hua Hin Championship and the Internacionaux de Strasbourg.

And she has already made one final this year, in Adelaide, where she lost to Ashleigh Barty in straight sets.

Now ranked 26 in the world, she had the distinction in Melbourne of being the last woman Caroline Wozniacki beat in a competitive match. She bounced back by helping Ukraine qualify from their Fed Cup group, but was beaten in the first round in Dubai by Veronika Kudermetova of Russia.

She comfortably beat Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium in the first round here on Monday.

Sofia Kenin v Dayana Yastremska Predictions & Tips

Whilst Kenin will start favourite for this match, it will not be easy against an opponent who is rising up the WTA rankings herself, and who has been in good form since Melbourne, Kenin will win, but it might take her three sets to do so.

Tip: Kenin to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
