Victoria Azarenka v Tamara Zidansek Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first meeting between the 30 year old former champion from Belarus and the 22-year-old Slovenian.

Azarenka’s First Match of the Season

Azarenka is a former world number one, and a multiple Grand Slam winner in singles and doubles.

She has won 20 WTA titles, but the last of those came in Miami four years ago. Since then the furthest she has got in any event came last April in this same tournament, where she got to the final, only to have to retire hurt during her match with Garbine Muguruza.

Well-documented off the court issues have restricted the number of tournaments she has been able to enter in recent years, and this will be her first match of 2020.

The last competitive match she played was at the US Open last year, where she was beaten in the first round by compatriot Arnya Sabalenka.

Zidansek, the Slovenian Number Two

Currently the second ranked player in Slovenia behind Polona Hercog, Zidansek has been in one WTA final, the Nuremburg Cup last May, where she was beaten by Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan. She also won the doubles titles at the Tashkent Open in 2018, with her partner Olga Danilova.

The 22-year-old has not enjoyed the best of starts to 2020. She was beaten in the first round in both Auckland and Hobart and, although she reached the second round in Melbourne, was then beaten in straight sets by Serena Williams.

Zidansek then lost all of her singles matches playing for Slovenia in the Fed Cup, but did reach the quarter final in Acapulco last week, only to be beaten by Mexican wildcard Renata Zarazua.

Victoria Azarenka v Tamara Zidansek Predictions & Tips

Azarenka has not played in a competitive match for six months and may be rusty. Fortunately for her, she is playing an opponent who has not been in the best of form so far this year. The woman from Belarus may struggle to find her timing initially, but should have enough to prevail, although it may take her three sets to do so.

Tip: Azarenka to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
