Johanna Konta v Kim Clijsters Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first meeting between the 28-year-old British player, and the former champion, eight years her senior.

Konta Struggling with Knee Injury

British number one Konta, has won three WTA titles, the most prestigious of which came in 2017 in Miami.

Last year, after a dip in performance levels, she had something of a resurgence of form, and became the first British woman since Sue Barker to reach the semi-final of the French Open, before losing to the Czech teenager Marketa Vondrousova.

She then went on to reach the quarter-finals in Wimbledon and at Flushing Meadows, but announced at the end of the year that she had a long-standing knee problem which was affecting her ability to compete.

As a result, she has played lightly this year so far – this will be only her fourth tournament of the year, and she is yet to win a single match.

She lost in the first round in Brisbane – the only time she has even won a set – and again in Melbourne. Her most recent tournament was in St. Petersburg where she was beaten by the qualifier, and world 129, Oceane Dodin of France.

Clijsters in Her Second Match of Her Comeback

For Clijsters, the former world number one and multiple Grand Slam winner, this will be the second match of her third comeback to the sport at the age of 36, after a five year absence from the sport, devoting the time to be a full-time mother to her three children.

She began her latest tennis reincarnation in Dubai last month, where she lost to Garbine Muguruza in straight sets.

In that match she showed some flashes of her old form, especially in the second set, where she fought back from a breakdown to force it into a tie break. But, at the same time, there were a lot of unforced errors which she would have been working hard to eradicate from her game in practice.

Johanna Konta v Kim Clijsters Predictions & Tips

Neither woman has any form coming into this match. Konta has lost all three matches she has played this year, whilst Clijsters is into just her second competitive fixture since her comeback. Much may depend on the state of Konta’s knee – if it stands up to the strain, then she should have enough to beat the former champion still finding her feet on a tennis court again.

Tip: Konta to win in straight sets: 11/10 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
