Elina Svitolina v Danka Kovinic Head to Head

Svitolina and Kovinic have met on two occasions at tour-level with the Ukrainian winning in both matches. But the last of their two meetings came in Bogota five years ago.

No need to push reset button, says Svitolina

Elina Svitolina has had a difficult start to the year, and in the midst of the roughest patch of her career, she admits that there is no need to panic.

Svitolina has been slow off the blocks, going 4-5 since the turn of the year, losing in the first round of her previous two tournaments: Dubai and Doha respectively.

After a roller-coaster ride in 2019 in which she reached back-to-back semifinals at Wimbledon and the US Open, her dip in form in 2020 has been quite alarming. Granted she never won a title last year (first time it happened since 2012), she did nurse a knee injury during the spring, which meant that she missed some very important tournaments after the Miami Open and would only return at the start of May.

A strong second half of the season in which she achieved those aforementioned Grand Slam breakthroughs meant that she qualified at the season-ending finale in Shenzhen where she lost to World No.1 Ashleigh Barty in the championship match.

Kovinic Chasing a First Win of 2020

Danka Kovinic, the 25-year-old Montenegrin, is also going through a dry spell which is slightly surprising considering her terrific form to finish the 2019 season.

Kovinic who has been ranked as high as No.46 in the world, reached the quarterfinals of a tour-level event at the Tashkent Open last year for the first time since 2016, and won her third ITF title of 2019 in Hungary last October.

Her last tournament of 2019 was in Taipei which is part of the 125K series. Kovinic reached the semifinals, a run that saw her end 2019 inside the top-100 for the first time in three years.

Elina Svitolina v Danka Kovinic Predictions & Tips

Svitolina’s form has raised a few eyebrows. She is the only player inside the top-10 with a negative win-loss record so far in 2020 and there hasn’t been an indication of any improvements she made during the off-season. Her losses have also been pretty convincing.

Though there is parity form-wise, as Kovinic is also not in the best of forms coming into this one. It is not beyond the Montenegrin to spring a surprise here, but I suspect the top seed will be fired up to get back to winning ways.

Tip: Svitolina to win in three sets: 10/3 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
