Caroline Garcia v Greet Minnen Head to Head
This will be the first match between the Frenchwoman Garcia and Belgium’s Minnen.

Garcia’s Form Needs a Resurrection
It’s hard to believe it was less than 18 months ago Garcia was ranked fourth in the world. She looked to be on a roll, having also won the Tianjin Open and while she ended the season 19th, it seemed like a season to build on for the French player.
Unfortunately since then, it’s been a matter of more downs than ups, as she ended the 2019 season with a 27-27 win-loss record and started off 2020 on an even worse note. Garcia has won just two of her seven matches this season, clinching first round victories at the Auckland Open and Australian Open but other than that, it’s been an underwhelming year.
What makes those losses worse is none of them have come against a top-10 player. Eugenie Bouchard, who has barely played any tennis in recent times, sent her out in straight sets in Auckland, little-known Lizette Cabrera downed her in Hobart, Ons Jabeur defeated her in Melbourne, Fiona Ferro in St. Petersburg and Bernarda Pera in Doha.
Clearly she needs bit of a winning momentum but the big question is how?

Minnen Closing in on Top 100
The Belgian is currently 105th in the world, a rank away from her career-best but more importantly looking to break into the top 100 for the first time. With that, direct qualifications to Grand Slams becomes a lot easier and Minnen, who is yet to feature at the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open, will have a lot at stake here.
Only last year, Minnen was 346th in the world but a solid 2019 season saw her jump to 110th in the world and this year’s begun on a similar note.
Minnen has played in three tournaments so far, qualifying for the main draw in two of them. At Auckland, she lost her opener to defending champion Julia Goerges while she made the most of her trip to Melbourne with a second round appearance. That was her best showing at a Grand Slam ever, before she went down to in-form Elena Rybakina.
While she is still outside the top-100, Minnen will be waiting to pounce on any erratic play from Garcia as she begins her quest to make it to the top 100.

Not a straightforward one for Garcia and we think it could go either way. Looking at a three-setter as a result as both players have a lot at stake in this one for different reasons.
