Sofia Kenin v Vitalia Diatchenko Head to Head

Diatchenko leads 1-0, winning their meeting at Wimbledon in the second round in 2018.

Kenin Still Searching For Rhythm After Melbourne

Sofia Kenin announced herself to the tennis world proper when she steamrolled through the Australian Open draw last January and won her first Grand Slam title. Kenin’s success in Melbourne wasn’t what you could call a cornerstone to more greater things.

After all, the talented young American was already an established top-20 player on the WTA tour, and enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2019 where she won three WTA titles.

However, she is learning things the hard way and how the tour can be unforgiving as far as aura without action is concerned. The Moscow-born 21-year-old was bundled out of the first round of her most recent appearances in the Middle East. She was beaten by rising Kazakh Elena Rybakina in three sets in Dubai, and in Doha last week, sh fell to Dayana Yastremska.

Can she find her rhythm as the top seed in Lyon?

Diatchenko Winless in 2020

Vitalia Diatchenko and Kenin are just not cut from the same cloth. With the American soaring at a career-high ranking of World No.5, the Russian is hovering just outside the top-100 and without a match win in 2020 at tour-level.

However, Diatchenko is a regular fixture on the ITF tour and that is where she has recorded most of her decade-long success. In 2019, she won six titles at that level and in addition, she also captured the Taipei 125K crown in what was the biggest title of her career in over five years.

The 29-year-old was so close to post her first win on the board in St. Petersburg but lost narrowly in a third set tiebreak to Maria Sakkari.

Sofia Kenin v Vitalia Diatchenko Predictions & Tips

Kenin’s form fell off a cliff during the Middle Eastern swing. But this is a very winnable first round which should be devoid of any drama. Expect the Australian Open champion to return to winning ways in style.
