Daria Kasatkina v Camila Giorgi Head to Head

The pair have never met each other on the tour. This will be the first time that the 23-year-old Russian and the 28-year-old Italian will be facing each other.

Kasatkina Slowly Regaining Form After a Difficult 2019

The Russian had a disappointing last season after a couple of very impressive years in 2017 & 2018. During those two seasons, she had an overall win-loss record of 74-45 and won two titles on the tour. She reached the finals of the 2017 Kremlin Cup before winning it the next year in front of her home crowd.

She also reached the finals at Indian Wells and became the top-ranked Russian women’s player on the tour. The Russian also broke into the top 10 rankings late in 2018.

But the weight of expectations seemed to have taken a toll on her last season. She only managed to win 13 our of her 34 matches last season and dropped to 70 in the rankings.

She went out in the first two rounds of the event on 20 occasions last year. Kasatkina didn’t start the 2020 season on a bright note either. She crashed out in the first round at Adelaide, the Australian Open and Saint Petersburg. But after winning her qualifying rounds in Doha she has started to show some of her old forms this week.

She has won four out of last five matches and her straight-sets win in the second round here has been one of her best performances of the season.

Giorgi Enjoying the Quick Indoor Courts

Similar to her opponent in the match, the Italian had a disappointing 2019 after an impressive 2018 season. Last year she only played 30 matches on the tour and lost 17 of them. From a high of 26 in the world rankings, she has currently dropped to 94 in the world.

But this year she has had some good results. She reached the third round at the Australian Open and now in Lyon, she has taken a liking to the fast indoor courts. Five of her seven overall career titles have come on the indoor hard court surfaces and that was visible during her two wins this week. She beat Vera Lapko of Belarus in straight sets before beating Alize Cornet in a tough three-setter.

She has the form behind her and will be looking to go even further in the tournament.

Daria Kasatkina v Camila Giorgi Predictions & Tips

This is likely to be a close contest. Kasatkina is the higher-ranked player and has shown in the past that she can beat any top player on her day. But Giorgi has an excellent record in the indoor hard courts and is looking in ominous form this week. The match is likely to go to the distance with the Italian being the slight favourite.

Tip: Giorgi to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
